Accrual of the Personal Choice Budget

The Personal Choice Budget is an annual gross amount that you save, next to your regular salary, in 12 equal monthly instalments in the period of January - December. The basic budget has been set at 12% of your gross monthly salary.

The Personal Choice Budget consists of the following components:

  • 8% holiday allowance;
  • 1,6% i.e. the value of 4 supra-statutory leave days;
  • 0,4%, i.e. a 'joys and sorrows day' (time off to see a doctor, etc.);
  • 2%, i.e. an employer contribution worth 2% of the gross annual salary

During the calendar year, you can use the amount saved in order to buy another employee benefit or to have a single gross amount paid out. At the end of the calendar year, the residual amount in the Personal Choice Budget is always paid to the employee. See also article 6 of the collective labour agreement.

Collective labour agreement products

You can spend your Personal Choice Budget on the following collective labour agreement products. More products may be added in the future.

  • Extra salary in the month(s) of your choice. The Personal Choice Budget is saved to have it paid out in one or more months in the calendar year, as selected by the employee;
  • Extra leave hours. Employees are entitled to buy a maximum of three extra weeks of leave, based on their individual number of working hours (article 5.4 paragraph 4 of the collective labour agreement);
  • Extra contribution to the pension scheme, if and to the extent that the employee's pension scheme offers sufficient scope for this;
  • Costs of education and training;
  • Extra options. Products relating to employee benefits can be added at company level;
  • Payment of union membership fee. In local consultation, agreements about payment of the union membership fee through the Personal Choice Budget can be made for employees covered by the collective labour agreement who are members of one or more of the trade associations involved in this collective labour agreement.
Personal Choice Budget application
  • The Personal Choice Budget application is a program that enables you to adjust your terms of employment package to your own specific situation. For example, you can arrange your Personal Choice Budget so that you opt for more leave or for having all or part of your budget paid.
  • This program can be accessed through the publishing industry's terms of employment portal. The only requirement is that you have an internet connection. You can change your choices all year round, 24/7/365, unless maintenance is being carried out on the system.
  • You can choose your personal preferences every month. If you do not make any choice, your à la carte budget for that month will be added to the savings amount you have already accrued. Any existing Personal Choice Budget will always be paid out once a year, i.e. together with the salary for December. Of course, it is up to you to spread this throughout the year as you like.
E.g.

You have saved an Personal Choice Budget of €2100.

You would like to:
have €500 paid before the holiday;
buy 5 days' holiday.

You do this in the Personal Choice Budget application. This will cost you:
5 x 8 holiday hours @ €20 (your hourly wage). This equals €800;
plus € 500 from your savings balance

You have chosen options as a result of which you have to surrender €1300 (€500 and €800) of your budget. €500 will be paid together with your salary and 5 days' holiday will be added to your holiday credit.

Your new Personal Choice Budget now is €800 (€2100 minus €1300)

You can use this to choose further options. If you do nothing, you save everything and your entire credit will be paid as salary at the end of the year.
